Somebody Up There DOESN’T Like Me :(

05Oct10

It’s a fact of life (my life I mean), that I’ve often noticed. Just after a hell of a roller coaster ride when I am just beginning to feel somewhat comfortable or (heaven forbid) even remotely happy, something comes along to royally mess it up.

A former roommate of mine once enunciated what was wrong in her life thus: “Every time I am happy, somebody up there wakes up and asks, ‘hey, who let this girl be happy?’ and makes sure something happens to make me miserable again.”

Dramaqueen much? Well I burst out laughing much to her annoyance, as she sounded peeved but funny but once I’d finished, I wondered why I had laughed. She had summed up pretty much what I felt about my own life PERFECTLY!

I recently told my mother that there was a Maran like being up there who delighted in making us cry somehow. Maran is my creep of a cousin who once was the bane of my existence. He had this thing about somehow making girls around him cry. And no, he wasn’t the Georgie Porgie type. A much subtler and crueler one who delighted in finding others’ Achille’s heel and pummeling it in. I soon learnt to keep a stoic face and not give him the satisfaction of seeing that he’d scored but he kept on relentlessly until somehow or other, he would get me to break down, at least in the privacy of my bedroom.

Seems to me, life too is like that. No matter how determined I am to be strong and face whatever it has to throw at me, it keeps on at it until finally I break down. Is it just my imagination or is there really some malicious entity up there which delights in hurting us? I really don’t get it!!!

P.S: If you haven’t guessed it already, Yours Truly is in the dumps again. Don’t worry, Life can sock me on the jaw but it hasn’t found a way yet to prevent me from getting back on my feet. Right now, I am still tenderly nursing said proverbial jaw but I’ll be up again, Don’t worry 🙂

  1. Dude, chill out.
YOU are in control of your life. The guy up there is not going to stand in your way, if you’re determined to go all the way, come hell or high water. Easier said than done, I know; but that’s the truth.

  2. That is, if there really is a guy up there at all…

I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes it’s too hard to get back up even. But we do. And life goes on….

Did that make sense? I’m sleepy. *Yawn*

  4. first!

  5. or not. Well, as a person who has decided optimism is the best course in life I can’t fully relate to what you say. But my best friend feels the same way, and I sort of understand. It’s good that you’re at least willing to get up and keep going. Because in the end, that is all you can do. On the other hand, you could say ‘kiss my ass’ to life and grab it by the chinny chin chin (if you know what I mean) and just enjoy the ups and downs both!

  6. Well, in another perspective, it’s fun to make others cry… okay, sorry 😀
But then, girls cry for anything, don’t they?

  7. Tsk Tsk I guess rambling this way, makes you feel better, that you are somehow different and going through shit, I know this because I did it – http://bit.ly/daYM7a , but that blog post was exactly a year ago.

The sooner you realize that you’re in control of your thing called life, the faster it will get better, or at least you will think it’s getting better. Like I said, happiness after all is subjective, you are only as happy as you want to or think you can be, it’s all about perceptions, expectations and standards. You passively define your happiness.

I’m not saying I’m right on this but I’m saying it because it worked for me. When you’re down, just think about the people downer than you and grateful for the things you have that they don’t. At least you don’t have to take wake up out of a box in the morning and take a piss on the pavement thinking ‘hmm i wonder, if that rice in the dumpster is stale or not, i’m starving’.

So chin up man, there is worse shit, if by your standards, you can’t go any further down, then the only way is up. So cheer up, things always get better, it’s not like you’re Sarath Fonseka yea lol

  8. No one’s life is perfect. Just think about the good times… And think positive. For every good thing that happens, there’s someone up there who likes you and is trying to make life better for you 🙂

And I agree with PurpleBoxers; remember there’s always someone who’s got it worse than you so be grateful for what you’ve got.

  9. Be positive – it will pass! 🙂

I was taught long ago, when I came sobbing and fell into my granny’s arms to chant “Gam zeh ya’avor.” (This too shall pass). Even when my heart starts to plunge into the depths of hell. Even when my heart soared dancing with the moon and the stars.

    Awww, Tulie! *hugs* 😦

Totally agree with Mr. Purple B and Megs. It’s all about attitude. I found out that ever since I stopped thinking ‘why does this always happen to me?’, my quality of life has drastically improved. 🙂

And if you need someone who’d be willing to lend an ear, you know where to find us. 😉 (p.s. I’m free these days, *hint*)
